Players who could be heading to MLS for 2015?

The regular Major League Soccer season has finished. This is the time those not making the playoffs turn their heads towards next year — i.e. who can they bring in to ensure they make the playoffs next year? Last season, we saw Toronto TFC finish second bottom of the Eastern Conference, then they used heavy off-season spending to make a big splash to bring in Jermain Defoe and Michael Bradley amongst others. Although Toronto's gamble did not pay off, more often than not those brought over from the European League absolutely revel in the North American game.

Next season, we already know Frank Lampard and David Villa will be playing for the newly formed New York City FC and legendary Brazilian midfielder Kaka will be joining the other new franchise, Orlando City, but who else has been linked with a move Stateside?

Andrea Pirlo

Andrea Pirlo is considered by some the coolest footballer in the world. His perfectly coiffed hair and trimmed facial hair make him more akin to a Calvin Klein advertising model than a regular on the football pitch. But when he does step on the pitch he is quite simply fantastic. The 35-year-old has a deal in place with current club Juventus until 2016 but it is widely believed that he will be willing to move to America, with LA Galaxy looking the likely destination. The West Coast club has the location that would appeal to Pirlo, while he is not only one of the most natural gifted football players in the world today, he is also one of the most marketable. With his good looks and cool demeanor Galaxy will be able to sell Pirlo to the moon, making it a win win for player and club.

Xavi

The Barcelona midfielder was linked heavily with a move to New York City FC but their signings of Lampard and Villa have cooled that talk. However, just because they are not interested does not mean that Xavi will not be crossing the Atlantic. It is a well known secret that Xavi is playing his final season with Barcelona, he is just sticking around to help former teammate and new manager Luis Enrique's first season at the Nou Camp. While it is unknown where he will go he will not remain in Spain, and bar the Premier League it is unlikely he will be interested in any of the other European top-flights. He is too old for England but not for America or Australia, and of those he will plump for the States. Having Xavi on your roster would add legitimacy to any side in the MLS, so expect him to be actively pursued.

Robinho

He was heavily touted to be joining Kaka at Orlando City but talks between the two parties broke down. The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Santos from AC Milan, and with a return to Europe seemingly out of the question the only league that Robinho can pick up an attractive salary is the MLS. Once his season long loan is over expect him to open negotiations with an American side. That is of course if he hasn't already.

These are just three players. We all know how fickle a game soccer is. Players move for the money and if there is enough of it then who knows who will end up where.
